It is OK, if you don't know what is VLMC because it hasn't been released yet. VLMC (VideoLAN Movie Creator) is a free video editing software, offering features to realize semi-professional quality movies, but with the aim to stay simple and user-friendly.
VLMC is being developed with the support of the VideoLAN organization (the house of the famous VLC Media Player). The pre-release version will be available soon.
It took me a while to install vlmc from the source code and I can say it is not so easy. However, vlmc is currently under heavy developing and doesn't offer advanced tools for video editing.
After playing with vlmc, I feel that it is simple, use-friendly, and stable (believe it or not ). Although, vlmc is under an early developing stage, It offers basic tools like resizing, trimming, render and history.
Here are some sceenshots:
first thing to do when you run VLMC : Project Wizard
A new project
The new project settings
The main windows of VLMC
Import some media to your project
It is simple !
VLMC settings
Do you like shortcuts?
Time to save your project
Rendering
If you want to try your luck with installing vlmc from the source code, here are the instructions. Good luck.

KDEnlive
Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 12/29/2009 - 20:21KDEnlive ( http://www.kdenlive.org/ ) is much more mature, clean and powerful and, the best of all: is easy! Give it a try.
Kdenlive rox
Marjana (not verified) on Mon, 01/04/2010 - 03:32Couldn't agree more. I've been using it for quite some time for my family videos edition and it is almost perfect, not too simple and not to hard. Too bad VLMC developers didn't just join Kdevlive developers as together they could develop even faster aand make Kdenlive even better. Both editors are based on Qt after all.
Thanks for letting us
noface on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 07:14Thanks for letting us know!!
It has its own long path to provide fundamental features which most users are eager to see!!
But, we should show our support and hope that its development wont stop on one stage or another!!
it look's nice thanks

Preserved Killick (not verified) on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 16:56I am not a video guy, but with Studio 9 on Windows XP I was able to put together music, photos, and video from my camcorder and burn DVDs to share with my kids' grandparents. No technical knowledge was required. I have been looking, off and on, for years, for a way to do this in Linux without having to download 14 codecs, compile from source, and then face a screen requiring me to set values for variables I'd never heard of before I can begin. I would love a video editor dumbed down so I can use it without 3 days of googling terms of art because then I'd be able to scrap Windows XP!
a simple, good editor
Kimbo (not verified) on Wed, 12/30/2009 - 14:13If you want something simple and funcional, try OpenShot. Kdenlive is much more sophisticated, but openShot probably does your justice to your grandparents desires.
OpenShot or Kdenlive
Hans Petter (not verified) on Mon, 01/11/2010 - 23:08Use OpenShot with Gnome, Kdenlive with Kde. I tried Kdenlive with Gnome and it gave me trouble, mostly sparks of noise in the sound. Looking forward to see VLMC, as I love its big sister VLC.
